Sport and nature in the Dordogne
Located in the heart of the Domme forest, the campsite Les Pialades in the Dordogne benefits from a natural environment that is ideal for hiking, cycling, mountain biking and nature-related activities. Nearby, many sports are available for the whole family, whether you are a beginner or an experienced sportsman.
On foot… for sport and nature lovers in the Dordogne
Starting from the campsite, several trails (or not!) take you through the forest and the countryside, to discover the strawberry fields, the chestnut and walnut trees, the beautiful properties… We have also created our own hike: La boucle des Pialades. Ask us for the route.
You can also go as far as the Groléjac lake and walk around the marshes or go for a swim. For the more sporty, choose the Domme loop to visit this magnificent bastide.
A few kilometres away by car, a huge choice of walks invites you to discover the Dordogne and Quercy in a different way. We can recommend some of them and provide you with detailed information. Check out our blog now; an article is dedicated to it: hiking in the Périgord Noir.
On the side of cliffs or rocks…
At the exit of the campsite, if you turn left, you will discover the routes of the Dordogne Valley with Les Falaises du Céou in Castelnau, le Bloc de Rome in Carsac…
If you turn right, you will be confronted with the climbing spots of the Corbeaux cliff in Milhac in the Lot…
Via ferrata courses are another way to get some height, especially in the Jardins de Marqueyssac.
In any case, these sites are very popular with climbers. Attention amateurs!
Rowing… a sport and nature activity on the Dordogne or the Vézère
A few kilometres from the campsite, the Dordogne River offers you a very pleasant descent of 2, 3 or 4 hours, depending on your wishes. Wide, calm, accessible to all (or almost: children from 5 years old), the river allows you to admire the region from a different angle, in a different atmosphere.
The châteaux circuit offers unique views of the châteaux of Montfort, Castelnaud, Beynac, Les Milandes, Fayrac and the village of La Roque-Gageac. You can take your time picnicking on one of its banks, swimming, observing its wildlife… Several partners reserve preferential rates for campsite guests. If you go a little further, you can go down the Vézère, a pretty valley to discover too.
Pedal power…
From the campsite, there is something for every wheel and every level!
Mountain bikers will find plenty to do on the many forest trails in the area. The Saint Pompon domain, for example, offers very popular routes; it is not surprising that a round of the French Mountain Bike Cup is often organised on its grounds!
For cyclists, there are plenty of routes from the campsite. You can join the “voie verte”. This former railway track leads to Sarlat or to the gates of Souillac. On the Lot side, you can follow the “vélo route: Promenade en Bouriane” which will take you to various mills as far as Gourdon, passing through the very pretty village of Payrignac.
You don’t have a bike or you can’t bring them? No problem, we can point you in the direction of a bike hire company a few kilometres from the campsite. Check out our blog; there is an article about the Dordogne by bike.
Walk, trot, gallop…
Would you like to go for a horse or pony ride? 10 minutes from the campsite, a riding school offers courses or rides for all levels. Just ask us.
In the air, underground…
Tree adventure courses (accrobranche), hot air ballooning, parachute jumping, paragliding… there are plenty of opportunities to take off near the campsite.
Other activities? Caving, golf, triathlon, paintball, go-karting… there is something for everyone. Ask us, we have a few addresses to recommend.
Nature at the campsite
At the campsite Les Pialades, nature is fully expressed with :
- our trees, some of which are identified by our arboretum: by their diversity and size they create a soothing and resourcing atmosphere.
- our birds, whose songs accompany your awakening every morning, contribute to this ambient serenity. It is not by chance that our campsite is recognised as an LPO (League for the Protection of Birds) Refuge.
- our animals, from the cutest and wildest (squirrels, roe deer…) to the least loved (especially insects), including those who are reclaiming their rights (don’t you agree, moles!).
- and our sky, which thanks to our location in the heart of a wooded valley, far from light pollution, offers astronomy enthusiasts a star show of extraordinary beauty…
Within this framework, we set up, at our level, small actions for the respect of the environment and its valorisation: selective sorting, compost, bird boxes, educational trail game for the children…
